Club Tournaments (2007)

As many of you know, we run three club tournaments during the season and they are becoming increasingly popular, with an afternoon’s friendly and competitive tennis being followed by a very sociable barbecue and a few beers enjoyed under the shade of our splendid gazebo.

The first of our tournaments this year, The Chairman’s Challenge in May, was unfortunately rained off once again. In June we had a good turn out for the men’s and ladies’ doubles championships and after a hard battle the ladies tournament was won for the second year running by Jo Bardot and Sue McDougall. The men’s tournament was also hard fought and Steve Noden and Nick Coleman came out as worthy winners.  Finally, our mixed doubles tournament was played in July. We survived one severe downpour by huddling under the gazebo and were then able to complete all the matches and enjoy the barbecue before the rain returned. The tournament was won by Cordy Carr and Simon Parker-Smith both playing very well, despite Simon having an injury.
