Unisex Tennis Ladder Rules

Introduction

Slinfold Tennis Club (“the Club”) is running a Tennis Ladder this year, to play from April through to mid September 2010. The Ladder is open to members of the Club, of any ability and will consist of male and female players, who have the opportunity to play against same and opposite sex throughout the season. The minimum age for entry is 16. The highest ranking male and female as at 11th September 2010 will be awarded their respective winning titles – trophies will be presented at the club’s end of season dinner, and will be held until the following year.

The Ladder is a points-based league, with matches played as a single 8-game pro set. Challenges can be made at any time, to anybody else on the Ladder, up or down. The Ladder is administered by Kevin Ballinger (“the Administrator”), on behalf of the Club Committee. The ladder is also managed online at www.tennisengine.com with up-to-date ladder details duplicated on our own club website and on the clubhouse bulletin board.

Scoring

Each match will be played as a single, 8-game pro-set, i.e. first to 8 games, by 2 clear games. If the match is tied at 8-8 then a tiebreaker must be played to determine the winner – you will play the tiebreaker to 9, by 2 clear points, to determine the winner.
If the winner is higher ranked they receive 9 points added to their previous point value. If the winner is lower ranked, their previous point value is replaced by the value of their opponent's points - plus 9 points, thus "leap-frogging" the opponent. The loser receives 1 point for each game that they win – there is a strong incentive to win as many games as possible!

Online scoring system - tennisengine.com

We also use the online website www.tennisengine.com to track all players and results. The site is password protected and participant’s contact details are only available to be seen by other (Slinfold) Ladder participants. The list of ladder participants is managed by the Administrator.
Upon registration each participant will be given a unique username and password which they can choose to use when viewing player profiles & statistics, reporting scores or viewing the Ladder.

Players can either record results directly to the tennisengine website or to the Administrator via email or phone. The site will immediately update overall placings and statistics on a live basis. Every week, the Administrator will duplicate the overall Ladder standings on the club’s website and clubhouse bulletin board for all to see.
