Mixed Doubles Tournament (2009)

The second of our club tournaments was played on 12th July on a sunny Sunday afternoon. This year’s mixed doubles tournament was played to win the club’s rejuvenated Maydwell Trophy. As in previous years there was much interest from club players and we saw 8 men and 8 ladies drawn out of the hat to choose their partners for the afternoon. As the draw of partners is down to luck there are always some interesting partnerships thrown together!
Previous years’ winner, Simon Parker-Smith, was absent in 2009 but the matches were hard fought by all on the day. The play-off matches lead to the top two winning pairs and the final between Kelly Slater/Kevin Ballinger and Cordy Carr/Jonathan Rawnsley was hard fought. Kevin and Kelly were eventual winners and took the Maydwell Trophy for 2009.
